Parent & Caregivers Engagement in Speech Therapy
NOT JUST IN EARLY INTERVENTION!
Whenever we work with children, no matter the setting, we are working with their caregivers too. Attempting a treatment program that does not include core objectives for deep learning and involvement opportunities for parents cannot yield optimal results, treatment efficiencey, or high parent satisfaction rates.
As SLPs we recognize the core role of parents & caregivers in our early intervention work with early communicators. But as the age of our clients increases, our opportunity for parent interactions decreases and the specificity of our treatment programs changes, parent engagement can drop off.

After 25+ years working as a pediatric SLP in schools, hospitals, community clinics, client homes and private practice, I have first-hand knowledge of the challenges in engaging parents in speech and language treatment.
