Parent & Caregivers Engagement in Speech Therapy

NOT JUST IN EARLY INTERVENTION!

Whenever we work with children, no matter the setting, we are working with their caregivers too. Attempting a treatment program that does not include core objectives for deep learning and involvement opportunities for parents cannot yield optimal results, treatment efficiencey, or high parent satisfaction rates.

As SLPs we recognize the core role of parents & caregivers in our early intervention work with early communicators. But as the age of our clients increases, our opportunity for parent interactions decreases and the specificity of our treatment programs changes, parent engagement can drop off.

At Speech Therapy Supports we help SLPs get parents involved, and keep parents involved, no matter what the treatment parameters are!

COURSE FOR SLPs:

Homework that gets done!

In this video series, we show you an approach to home speech sound practice that is much more effective than traditional worksheets and flashcards. You also receive 4 free resources to help you easily incorporate this approach into your practice. It's easy! It gets students practicing, improves parent (and child and SLP) satisfaction and can have a big impact on treatment results.

Improve Parent Engagement in Speech Sound Practice

We NEED Parents

Parent training takes TIME

Parents WANT to help

Speech sound therapy (articulation, phonology and motor speech) requires daily practice of the targets we have established in our therapy sessions.

We need parents to know exactly how to take our recommendations and create opportunities for effective practice in between sessions.

When the families we work with can do this effectively and consistently our clients make amazing progress!

Parents WANT to help

Parent training takes TIME

Parents WANT to help

Parents are motivated to help their children with speech sound therapy.. They want to see results just as quickly as we do.

...And family life can be very overwhelming. There are never enough hours in the day to do all the things!

We need to show parents how to build speech practice into daily life in a way that builds connection and empowers parents. No stress, no parental guilt!

Parent training takes TIME

Parent training takes TIME

Worksheets and flash cards are not enough. Five-minute debriefs, quick emails and parent orientation sessions are helpful but we know they are not sufficient.

Parents, like all learners, need cumulative learning opportunities to build knowledge and skills. They need to see many examples and time to reflect upon information and personalize it to their own experiences.

We have simple solutions to help you build connections with parents to bridge the gap between your speech office and your clients' homes.
